The Dansko Clogs – European Style

Indianapolis Podiatrist - Foot & Ankle InstituteWife and husband team Mandy Cabot and Peter Kjellerup, avid horse professionals, discovered the Dansko clog while on a horse buying trip to Denmark, Peter’s home town. They were so enthused with the comfort of the shoe, with each trip they returned home to the United States with more and more clogs for their family, friends, staff and students.

The clogs became so popular they had them shipped to the United States and began selling them at horse shows out of the back of their Volvo. Many of the people in the horse business were healthcare professionals or people in foodservice. They soon discovered that people other than horse professionals were extremely interested in the clogs. They named the clog “Dansko” literally translated “Danish Shoe”.

Mandy and Peter began their business with one employee and today employ 130 individuals. Their business was incorporated in 1990 and they began shipping clogs to retailers in 1991. In 1992, they were awarded the first Seal of Acceptance for the stapled collection by The American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA).
